Kate Henderson
Kate holds a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education, Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction / Aqua). She is Master Trainer Certified and a Punch Boxing Instructor. Kate is a Director of Z-Best Fitness. With a passion for sport and fitness, Kate is a competitive spirit with a background in horse riding and marathons. Recently she contributed to Ageless Vitality – a guide to good health after 40 – and has developed and produced an outdoor PT course for the Australian Fitness Network.
Gary Mullins
Gary holds a Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction). He is Master Trainer Certified and an Advanced Thump Boxing Instructor. Gary runs his own PT business, and his clients include Brides 2 Be, SLSC Rowers, and ultra marathon runners. An active athlete, Gary’s passions span a variety of disciplines including archery, squash, AFL, hockey, rugby union, soccer, cricket, triathlon and athletics.
Kenny McDonald
Kenny holds a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science, Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice, Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction). He is Master Trainer Certified and a Certified Spin Instructor. Kenny’s passion for all things movement was ignited at a young age where he represented New Zealand in trampolining and tumbling. Since completing his degree, Kenny has focussed on sports specific training and injury management, working and travelling with professional rugby teams.
Fiona McKay
Fiona holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction). She is Master Trainer Certified and a Punch Pad Instructor. An experienced educator and trainer, Fiona runs her own PT business Barefoot Fitness, which offers outdoor one-on-one and group training sessions. A life-long learner, Fiona is currently undertaking studies in graphic design, developing skills she hopes to use to assist fellow fitness professionals to establish and market their own businesses.
Solveig Anderson
Solveig holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Nutrition, Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction). She is also Master Trainer Certified. After completing her degree, Solly (as she’s affectionately known) undertook an internship under the direction of Exercise Physiologists. This led to her employment with Peak Health and Rehabilitation. After starting a family, Solly now consults privately with clients for personal training and nutrition. A mad keen long distance runner Solly is often seen pounding the pavements of her hometown Brisbane preparing for upcoming marathons.
Heather Chirakis
Heather holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage, Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice, Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training) and Certificate III in Fitness (Gym Instruction). A registered nurse with many years experience, she is also Master Trainer Certified. As a healthcare provider, Heather is often seen on campus delivering the Institute’s First Aid courses to budding fitness professionals.
Tallan Ames
Tallan holds a BSc(Sp. Sci.), Grad. Dip Ed. (Sec. Phys. Ed.), Cert IV TAA, Cert III Fitness and a Cert IV Fitness. Having played in most positions on the Fitness team, Tallan is the current Training Team Captain at the Western Australian campus of the Australian Institute of Fitness. His passion and expertise lies within biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, yet enjoys all facets of the Master Trainer program. Apart from playing on campus, Tallan is an avid footballer, playing with the Premiership contending Swan Districts Football Club (WA) and enjoys fine-tuning his motorsport skills on the road (in both car and on motorcycle). One of the loudest characters on campus, you'll always know that when 'Amesy' is at the front of the classroom, you're bound to have a 'roaring' good time whilst fast tracking your fitness career.
Joanna Nicholas
Joanna holds a BScience (Health & ExSci - HM), Cert IV TAA, Cert III Fitness and a Cert IV Fitness. She entered the industry whilst studying Human Movement at University of Western Australia when she began developing and instructing Strength & Conditioning classes at the her ballet school, Dance Venture. While studying, dancing and teaching group classes, she spread her wings to assist the West Coast Eagles Sports Science Manager with rehabilitation and physiotherapy data and game statistics, and coordinated over 200 volunteers at the 2004 Australian University Games. Joanna's passion for fitness began to grow when she started taking Group Exercise classes at Inspired Life and Shemoves Pole Dance Fitness Studios. Joanna's motivating experiences has extended to groups such as Your Trainers, Renouf Personal Training to Virgin Active in West London. Joanna has trained clients ranging from National Athletic Figure & National Fitness Champions (specializing in flexibility and conditioning), adolescents, mums, corporate to business owners trimming down for their wedding. A competitive sports model herself, Joanna believes in keeping active in many different ways (including weight training, training for half marathons, Ashtanga yoga and ballet) and setting regular goals to keep on track. Since joining the Australian Institute of Fitness Joanna’s passion for the industry has blossomed, she loves sharing her fitness knowledge and experience with others.
