Ideas to Expand Your Personal Training Portfolio

Whether you’ve just started to think about pursing a personal training career, or have already enrolled in the Master Trainer program at the Australian Institute of Fitness, did you know there's heaps of options for your career pathway?

If you want to get paid for something you love and stay fit at the same time, you’re in the right place. The fitness industry is booming right now, so there’s never been a better time for you all to start planning your new fitness careers and be among like-minded people. By enrolling on the Master Trainer program you’ll open up a world of opportunities for yourself, and you can choose to study whichever way suits you – part-time, full-time or online. Personal training doesn’t have to be one-on-one training at your fitness centre either; there’s so much you can aspire to achieve. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Strength Training or Crossfit: Offer private sessions using Kettlebells, tyres, ropes, pull-up bars and weights, or open your own Crossfit gym.
  • With Kids, the Elderly or Disabled: Extremely rewarding, whether you’re playing games and doing activities with groups of kids or doing chair exercises with the elderly or disabled.
  • Athletes or Sports Teams: Train athletes or sports teams to reach higher levels through speed, agility, co-ordination or whatever it takes. Great if you come from a sporting background.
  • Outdoor Boot Camps or Circuits: Perfect if you love the freedom of being outdoors, and works well if you live near a park or beach.
  • Home Visits: Charge more for going to your clients’ houses to train, but be sure to consider travel time and petrol costs.
  • Group Exercise: If you’re bubbly and have good co-ordination, this is one for you. You can either take classes at your local fitness centres or at a community hall.
  • Aqua Instructor: Love water? Train clients in an indoor or outdoor pool, and discover the benefits for the injured, obese and disabled.
  • Massage Therapist: Your clients will need massages to compliment their training, so who better to send them to than yourself.
