Tallan Ames 'Amesy' - Training Team Captain

Tallan has been playing with the Australian Institute of Fitness for over 2 years now, having played in most positions on the Fitness team. His passion lies within biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, yet enjoys all facets of the CERT III & CERT IV In Fitness.

Apart from playing on campus, Tallan is an avid footballer, playing with the Premiership contending Swan Districts Football Club and enjoys fine tuning his motorsport skills on the road (in both car and motorcycle).

One of the loudest characters on campus, you'll always know that when 'Amesy' is at the front of the classroom, you're bound to have a 'roaring' good time whilst fast tracking your fitness career.

Joanna Nicholas 'Jete Joanna' – Fitness Master Coach

Joanna entered the industry whilst studying Human Movemant at the University of Western Australia when she began developing and instructing Strength & Conditioning classes at her ballet school, Dance Venture. While studying, dancing and teaching group classes, she spread her wings to assist the West Coast Eagles Sports Science Manager with rehabilitation and physiotherapy data and game statistics, and coordinated over 200 volunteers at the 2004 Australian University Games.

Joanna's passion for fitness began to grow when she started taking Group Exercise classes at Inspired Life and Shemoves Pole Dance Fitness Studios.

Joanna's motivating experiences has extended to groups such as Your Trainers, Renouf Personal Training to Virgin Active in West London. Joanna has trained clients ranging from National Athletic Figure & Fitness Champions specializing in flexibility and conditioning, adolescents, mums, corporate to business owners trimming down for their wedding.

A competitive sports model herself, Joanna believes in keeping active in many different ways by including weight training, training for half marathons, Ashtanga yoga, ballet and setting regular goals to keep on track.

Since joining the Australian Institute of Fitness, Joanna's passion for the industry has blossomed, she loves sharing her fitness knowledge and experience with others.

David Mitchell 'Dangerous Dave'- Fitness Lead Coach

Dave brings a wealth of knowledge to his 3 plus years as a coach here having a Degree in Sports Science & Sports Management along with a Masters Degree in Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning).

Along with his high profile role as a coach, Dave also applies his recognised skills in Strength and Conditioning with the East Fremantle football colts and the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA)

Britt Bailey Kerber 'Britz Splitz' - Fitness Coach

As a proud mother of 2, Britt is a prime example of a competitive spirit and a versatile coach. A champion fitness competitor for the last 4 years and current Asia-Pacific WNBF women's fitness title holder, Britt also competes in a variety of marathons, triathlons and adventure races.

Aside from coaching, Britt is also the fitness editor of Perth Woman magazine, an active volunteer for GROW WA a mental health organisation and co-owner of Shemoves Dance Fitness studios for WA and NT.

Grant Whiteside 'Grrrrrant' - Fitness Coach

Grant has been playing with the Australian Institute for nearly 4 years. He has been in the fitness industry for 15 years and has taught extensively at Schools, colleges and Universities.

He owns and operates his own PT development business ( IDEA ) which awards CEC points to fitness professional to allow them to keep their qualifications current.

Grant presented at WAFIC last year and always tries to stay on top of fitness developments. He currently works as a professional Firefighter allowing him to put a different slant on your learning experience.

Shaun Radford 'Sweet As' - Fitness Coach

For a long time Shaun has always enjoyed staying active and fit. He followed this enjoyment into studying a Bachelors degree in Physical Education at the University of Otago in New Zealand and continued his fitness qualifications completing his Master Trainer certificate at the Australian Institute of Fitness attaining his Certificate III and IV in fitness.

Shaun was so impressive as a student, that he was asked to join the team not long after he graduated. He also works as a Personal Trainer with Jetts 24/7 Fitness which allows him to practice what he preaches.

Shaun recently finished the preparation Bootcamps for the Breast Cancer Foundation of WA for the trek to the top of Africa's highest peak...Mt Kilimanjaro.

Shaun's motto:

"The greatest thing you can give someone is the empowerment to take control and in becoming a personal trainer you can really do this. So what have you got to lose? Jackie Zimmerman 'Jumpin' Jacks' - Fitness Coach

Jackie moved to Australia from Canada in 2007 before joining the Training team as a Coach with the Australian Institute of Fitness for nearly 2 years.

Her passion is in health promotion and teaching people exercise and good nutrition so that they can enjoy the benefits of a healthy body.

Jackie has been a devoted recreational runner for 6 years and finished her first marathon in 2009. Her favorite distance to race is the half-marathon and loves to dabble in the odd adventure race or bike race.

Other sporting activities include resistance-training, mountain biking (both cross-country and down-hill), road biking, kayaking, and snowboarding

Robin Lowery 'Rockin'' - Group Exercise Coach

Robin started her career in the fitness Industry back in 1992 when “aerobics” was at the height of popularity and Group Exercise rooms were packed to the rafters. Her passion for all things fitness grew and some years later she gained her qualifications in Gym Instruction and Person Training.

She has continued in the industry over the years teaching Freestyle Group Exercise along with four pre-choreographed programs. Robin has been with The Australian Institute of Fitness in WA almost since its inception coming on board as our Group Exercise Coach in 2000. She went on to teach all aspects of the Certificate III and IV in Fitness and continues to be our Group Exercise Freestyle Coach, now also having input to our curriculum via our National Training Team Committee.

Fiona McKay 'Fab Fi' - Fitness eCoach

With over 12 years experience in education, Fiona has a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness and is a Punch Pad instructor.

She joined the fitness industry over four years ago to pursue a driving passion to help others on their journey to health, fitness and happiness. Fiona has experience as a Personal Trainer working in a gym and now runs her own personal training company 'Barefoot Fitness' running outdoor one on one and group PT sessions.

Fiona is also currently studying Graphic Design and aims to use her skills in this area to help fellow fitness professionals set up and market their own Fitness Businesses. Fiona has been a face to face fitness coach with the Australian Institute of Fitness for the past 3 years and is currently the eCoach for WA where she draws on her experience and skills in the fitness industry and education to facilitate and coach eFriends on their path to a successful career in fitness.

Chris Bennett 'Cool Hand Chris' - Massage Master Coach

Chris is one of our most experienced coaches on campus having worked in the massage industry for 27 years as a Remedial Massage Therapist.

His great depth and knowledge has been invaluable to the Australian Institute of Fitness having recently rewritten and revised the Massage curriculum along with his duties as the Massage Dept Head at the Australian College of Natural Heal Sciences and the Australian college of Natural Medicine.

Angelo Peghini 'Atomic Angelo' - Massage Coach

Angelo is a Remedial Massage Therapist with a long history of Sports Massage and Injury Prevention. He holds certificates in Bowen Therapy, Touch for Health, Grand Sacral Balancing, Reflexology, Manual Lymphatic Drain and Emmtech. He also holds Certification in Business Studies and Training & Assessment.

His passion is for Sports Enhancement and Injury Rehabilitation. Angelo enjoys teaching others what he has learned in clinic plus other studies over a long career as a clinical consultant.

Angelo has also taught at the Barry Harwood School of Massage and Sport Medicine Australia (WA), along with consulting various sports teams on a national level.

Lucy La Cunza 'Queen Latina' - Fitness Coach

Lucy has been in the industry for the past 10 years and completed her Certificate III & IV in Health and Fitness in 2000. After completing her qualifications, she specialised in Group Fitness Instruction which included Aqua Instruction, Les Mills programs such as Body Attack, Body Pump and RPM along with training in Fit ball classes.

A former Special Needs Primary School Teacher, Lucy has also added Personal Training to her skills. She started her own successful mobile/home business while working for CBD Health Spa and Club Sierra in Mundaring at the same.

She enjoys outdoor training and over the last 2 years has specialised in training clients with weight loss and rehabilitation goals.

Bjorn Voon 'Bjornacles' - Fitness Coach

Bjorn has been in the Fitness Industry for the last 8 years and completed his Certificate IV in Fitness while completing his Human Movement - Exercise and Health Science Degree at UWA. At the same time, he also ran a successful fitness business in Fitness First and has worked closely with health professionals, Exercise Physiologists and Strength and Conditioning Coaches.

His methods of training over the last 3 years have included principles of Pilates as he is a qualified Pilates Instructor in Contemporary Pilates. He also runs Pilates classes in Mount Lawley. He is currently completing a Certificate in IV in Contemporary Pilates and is also an Educator for Art of Motion.

Bjorn specializes in one on one mobile personal training, Circuit Classes, Pilates Classes and Information Seminars.
