Matt Shirvington |
|
Not many of us can claim to have graduated in the same class as Olympic athlete, Matt Shirvington, but that was before he completed the Master Trainer program with the Australian Institute of Fitness earlier this year. Shirvington's classmates can be forgiven for making the boast; after all, who would have thought that studying to become a personal trainer could see you sitting side-by-side with an Australian sprint record holder. "I'd always had the idea of opening my own professional fitness business but it wasn't until I retired from competition last year that I've had the time to pursue it. Throughout my career I've accrued a lot of practical knowledge of the human body but I knew that if I wanted to be a personal trainer I had to learn how to consolidate and transfer this information on. I wanted an internationally recognised qualification and I got that from the Institute. I also wanted to bypass years of university study, so getting qualified as a personal trainer in just eight weeks was an attractive option. I did a lot of research - trawling through the internet and speaking to family and friends who have had a connection with a personal trainer - and I came up with the Institute as being the best in the industry. With my career I always aimed to be the best at what I did, so it made sense that I wanted to go to the best people for my own qualification. I'd recommend the Institute to anyone who is serious about a careers in fitness." |

Elsa JacobsHaving been in the Hospitality Industry for 17 years I was looking for a new direction and challenge.I have enjoyed my regular gym and Personal Training sessions and realised that this was an area I felt motivated to join.I signed up for the 16 week part time course. Although it was gruelling studying part time and working full time, I felt that this was the career I wanted to pursue. I found the course to be relaxed and enjoyable and the coaches to be fun and knowledgeable and the mix of class time and gym time helped with the learning process. I also found it comfortable approaching them for advice throughout and after the course. While revisiting the Institute shortly after finishing, I was approached by one of the staff members and asked if I was working in the industry yet. I was given the phone number of Ingrid Nardone from Energique Nutrition and Personal Training.I went along for an interview, successfully completed the training and have been working there full time ever since and enjoying it immensely. |

I was unsure about what career path I wanted to take, but being passionate about fitness, I was sure about helping people achieve their goals. That’s how I heard about the Australian Institute of Fitness and that lead me to enrol into a course that would satisfy both my interests.Throughout the course I was exposed to many aspects of the fitness industry and introduced to a lot of experienced people, which provided me with many opportunities to succeed. From this, I was encouraged and inspired to start my own business. I completed the Master Trainer in Fitness and the Master Massage Therapist courses just 3 weeks ago and since then, I have started my own Personal Training and Massage business. Now armed with established clients, I am confident that I can create this into a successful business venture. The Australian Institute of Fitness gave me the acquired skills and knowledge to become a successful Personal Trainer through their up to date curriculum and in depth knowledge of current training techniques. The course was always challenging but structured perfectly to suit any person who is passionate about fitness by making it a fun and creating an environment that makes learning easy. |

When I decided to change career and pursue after 17 years in the fashion industry, the AIF Cert. III / Cert IV / Master Trainer course stood out as being the best way to do it. I wanted to fast-track my career as a Personal Trainer and the course, staff and industry connections have proved invaluable in getting me into the Fitness Industry immediately on finishing the course. The positive, helpful and genuinely friendly staff were great and the atmosphere was always energetic and motivating! On completing my course I started my business Proactive Lifestyle & Fitness and started working as a PT at a private studio in Seacliff, Body Synergy, and a month later also became a full-time franchised PT at Fitness First at the Adelaide City Branch. Both of these opportunities came from networking through the AIF, Kate was fantastic in helping me in that respect! I love working in both locations, they’re very different from each other so I’m learning all the time – the privacy and individuality of the small studio is fantastic, while on the other hand working within a large organisation like Fitness First provides great training and support as well as being part of a big, fun team too is great. My one piece of advice would be to pursue any contacts, connections and leads the AIF gives you – it’s up to you to take it that one step further to get you that job, client, opportunity etc. It is exactly the same once you’re in the industry – if you aren’t proactive today, how will you be any different tomorrow? |
